Rabies Alert: Stray cat tests positive for rabies in Plant City

PLANT CITY, Fla. -- A rabies alert has been issued in Hillsborough County after a stray cat has tested positive for rabies in Plant City.

The Hillsborough County Florida Department of Health says that black and white, domestic shorthair cat tested positive Thursday.

The alert will be active for 60 days and includes the following boundaries:

-North boundary: East Alexander St.

-West boundary: James L. Redman Parkway

-East boundary: Jap Tucker Rd. and Jim Johnson

-South boundary: East Sparkman Rd.

County officials are warning residents to be mindful of animals that do not have an updated rabies vaccination. People should also be treated immediately if they come into direct contact with the animal.
