A stray kitten was safely rescued from an SUV on Wednesday morning thanks to work by the Tarpon Springs Fire Department.

About 7:30 a.m., a resident heard a cat meowing as she drove and stopped at the Tarpon Springs Public Safety Building. She had seen a kitten earlier, but it darted away as the woman walked toward her SUV.

The woman looked around the SUV, but never thought the kitten would crawl up into her engine compartment.

After a couple of hours of searching with only a few meows, the kitten was finally located in the vehicle.

The kitten -- now named Fender -- was located inside the right front fender well and safely removed.
