Publix announced a recall of its Publix Premium Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough ice cream Monday due to the possibility of it containing the bacteria listeria.
The ice cream in question was sold at stores in Florida, Georgia, Alabama, South Carolina, Tennessee and North Carolina with a UPC of 000-41415-03843, with a sell-by date of May 27 2017, printed on the bottom of the half-gallon container.
Listeria monocytogenes is a bacterium that can cause infections in children, the elderly and others with weakened immune systems.
The giant grocery store chain released a statement Monday saying the potentially compromised product has been removed from all store shelves.
Customers may return the product for a full refund. The Publix Customer Care department can also be reached at (800) 242-1227.
