Tampa, Fla. – Furniture shopping can be a bit of a challenge.

“I’ve been stressed out for the last three weeks,” Kevin Perez said while shopping recently at Ashley HomeStore in Tampa.

“Very stressful; so many options, you don’t know what to get, you change your mind,” explained Valerie Perez, another shopper (no relation to Kevin).

“It’s pretty stressful trying to make everybody happy,” added shopper Tammy De Jesus.

Of course, there’s also the cost.

“I’m thinking about price,” said Christina Newcomb as she tried out various couches.

So, this holiday season, 10News teamed up with Ashley HomeStore to make buying comfortable furniture way more comfortable.

We armed 10News anchors Courtney Robinson and Carolina Leid with $500 gift certificates and they went about surprising shoppers.

“We're spreading Joy to the Bay. I want to offer you $500,” said Leid to a surprised couple.

“Best holiday gift possible. Thanks!” Syeda Naqvi said.

Robinson figured Kevin Perez might need to sit down for the news, so they plunked down on a couch. Here’s how that exchange went:

Courtney: “We’re spreading Joy to the Bay. Merry Christmas, here is $500.”

Kevin: “Really?”

Courtney: “Yes.”

Kevin: “Oh, my goodness!”

We love helping out a son doing right by his mom.

“I'm really thankful. We just got a new apartment--had nothing in it. I'm trying to make it so my mom can settle down comfortably,” Perez said.

For Christina Newcomb, the gift will help house relatives blown her way. “It's helpful, we have family living with us from Puerto Rico, because of Hurricane Maria, so it definitely helps share that load a little bit. It’s great,” she said, giving Courtney a hug.

For Jorge and Martha Monte purchasing a mattress, the gift certificate guarantees some sweet dreams.

“It’s a big surprise,” said Martha Monte with a laugh. “I didn’t know this was going to happen today. Oh, my gosh!”

What a great way to furnish some fun! On this afternoon, the Ashley HomeStore the scene of clapping, hugs, and happy dances.
