Houston Police say a brave little boy helped save his younger brother after a fiery crash killed their dad on Interstate 45 early Friday.
Police say the dad lost control of his family's moving truck for unknown reasons. He struck a barrier and then a concrete pillar, flipping the truck. The truck burst into flames, and the dad died at the scene.
Two young boys, an 5-year-old and a 2-year-old, were ejected from the crash. The younger brother suffered serious burns, but the older one suffered minor injuries and was able to tell police what happened.
“The 5-year-old actually advised us that he pulled his 2-year-old little brother out from the 18-wheeler wreckage,” said Sgt. James Roque. “The 2-year-old did have some severe burns to his body, but he’s at Memorial Hermann and they’re saying he’s expected to be okay.”

The 5-year-old said their mom was driving an R.V. in front of them but kept going, apparently unaware there was a crash.
The crash was first reported around 1:20 a.m. just inside Beltway 8, shutting down in the inbound lanes for several hours. The freeway mainlanes reopened shortly before 6 a.m., but the southbound frontage road remained blocked.
