St. Petersburg, Fl – Make A Difference Day is Saturday, October 22. Sponsored by 10News’ parent company TEGNA, Points of Light, and the Arby’s Foundation- - it’s one of the largest days of service across the country.

About 40 people from 10News will be out at the Kings Forest Community Center in Hillsborough County. We’ll be painting both inside and out, putting in a few plants, and picking up trash in the area. We’ll also be creating a reading center for children in the neighborhood.

Some local businesses are helping make this happen. We want to thank the Largo Lowe’s for donating painting and landscaping supplies, Valspar for donating paint, Hudson’s Furniture for donating chairs and bookshelves, and Sonny’s BBQ to the Rescue for feeding us on Saturday.

In about six weeks, the group Safe & Sound Hillsborough will start an afterschool program at the center and 10News is happy to help make it a more welcoming place. “It’s going to be more inviting; kids are going to be attracted to it, they’re going to see the colors. The community is going to see that this facility which was dormant for about eight years, is now open for them as an asset in the community,” said Freddy Barton of Safe & Sound.
