VALRICO, FLA. – Authorities are looking for a man they say ran off with a stolen iPhone in Valrico after setting up a meeting to purchase the device through an app called Offer-Up.
The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office said the suspect arranged a meeting at the Brentwood Hills pool area on December 10 to purchase an iPhone 7 Plus. After the original owner unlocked and erased the phone's contents during the exchange, the suspect grabbed the phone and ran off.
The sheriff's office has identified the suspect as a black male, approximately 5'3” tall and weighing 150 lbs. He has short black hair and left a pair of size 7.5 Adidas sneakers at the scene. He was last seen wearing black shorts and a white t-shirt.
HCSO warned about the dangers of online shopping and offered residents looking for safe spaces to conduct transactions arranged online to use the parking lots of their district offices.
