A Winter Haven man is behind bars after he broke into a home while an 18-year-old woman was inside, police said.

About 11:10 a.m. Monday, the victim was watching TV in her bedroom in the 1300 block of Eagle Crest Boulevard when she heard someone knock on the front door. She looked out a window and saw a dark-colored car in front of her home. She didn't open the door and went back to the bedroom.

Shortly after, the victim heard glass breaking from the back of the residence. She went into the hallway and saw two men enter the home. She ran out the front door, ran to a neighbor's home and called 911.

Winter Haven officers in the area immediately responded and saw the back door of the residence open up and Eric Marquet Ellison, 23, 1681 32nd St. NW, Winter Haven, run outside. Officers commanded him to get on the ground, but Ellison continued running, police said. Two officers were able to catch Ellison and arrest him after using a stun gun on him after he resisted multiple times, police said.

After being searched, Ellison, who was wearing rubber gloves, was found to have multiple items inside of his pockets from the residence, including a television remote and two small jewelry boxes with multiple bracelets, necklaces and pairs of earrings inside, police said.

After a search of the residence, one television was located near the back door and another was unplugged and turned sideways on its shelf. The remote in Ellison's pocket belonged to one of the televisions inside of the home.

The other suspect remains at large.

Ellison, who has a criminal history including arrests for trespassing, unlawful entry, petit theft, was charged with burglary of an occupied dwelling, grand theft from a dwelling, possession of burglary tools with intent , conspiracy to commit burglary, criminal mischief and resisting an officer without violence.
