A man is dead after motorcyclists drove up and shot him as he sat in his pickup near the Suncoast Parkway and State Road 54, Pasco County's sheriff says.

Sheriff Chris Nocco said the shooting happened about 4:55 p.m. A witness called 911 and said she saw the truck stopped on the northbound lanes exiting the parkway.

The witness said she saw two motorcyclists drive up to the truck and dismount. She heard "three pops" and saw them ride away.

Nocco said it appeared to be a targeted shooting. The victim is a motorcycle gang member, he said.

The victim's name is not being released because relatives have not been notified yet.

The motorcyclists went through a toll plaza, but they covered up their license plates. They had Nazi "SS" lightning bolts on their bikes.

The sheriff's office released photos of the motorcyclists as they passed through the plaza.

Nocco said he is worried innocent people could be hurt, and he is urging anyone with information to step forward, even anonymously, to help solve the case.

ATF officials are aiding sheriff's investigators.
