CLEARWATER, Fla. -- A Clearwater firefighter was arrested in St. Pete Beach on Tuesday evening after police were notified that a man was sitting in his truck at a traffic light, seemingly unresponsive.

According to a Pinellas County Sheriff's report, when deputies checked on the man, they found Andrew Leeth, 36, slumped over in the driver seat of his Chevy Silverado in the eastbound turn lane on Boca Ciega Dr. near the intersection of 75th Ave.

Police say Leeth had alcohol on his breath and his eyes were bloodshot, glassy and watery. He was alone in the vehicle.

Deputies took him to Palms of Pasadena Hospital as a medical precaution, and once there they say Leeth refused a blood test that was to be used in the criminal investigation. He also took off the medical equipment medical staff had put on him before trying to leave the hospital.

Police told him to stop but Leeth ran toward the hospital exit, so they tasered the off-duty firefighter, at which point he became compliant.

The report also says that Leeth had a white powdery substance on him that tested positive for cocaine.

He is charged with DUI, Resisting Arrest Without Violence and Possession of a Controlled Substance.

Leeth was taken to Pinellas County jail.

The investigation is ongoing.
