HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. -- The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office were searching for two car thieves involved in a crash Thursday afternoon.

A deputy was turning around to pull over what appeared to be a stolen vehicle when the vehicle sped off and ran through a stop sign.

According to deputies, the suspects lost control of the stolen vehicle and crashed at Lindsey St. and Blackjack Rd. around 1:30 p.m.

The suspects were seen running behind some homes in the area and jumped over several fences in the backyards of the nearby homes. Several dogs approached the suspects in one of the backyards and one of the dogs was shot by one of the suspects.

The dog ran under the house following the shooting.

The suspects ran and hid in a swamp where the K-9 units led deputies to finding and arresting them. Hillsborough County pet resources are assisting in providing care to the dog following the gunshot wound and deputies have found the gun involved.

Jonathan Gerardo Lozada, 19, of Plant City was arrested on two warrants and additionally charged with resisting an officer without violence and grand theft auto.

Thomas A. Nolasco, 21, was charged with violating probation, resisting an officer without violence and grand theft auto.
