It’s Friday, so you know it’s that time of the week where we recognize a different school in Tampa Bay as 10News’ School of the Week powered by Duke Energy Florida. This isn’t just a pep rally, we are headed into the classrooms to showcase the great achievements of the students, faculty and staff. Every Friday we are live from the school campus beginning at 6 a.m. and don’t forget to watch at 6 p.m. as well to catch the highlights from earlier in the day.
We’re happy to announce that our school this week is Stewart Magnet Middle School in Hillsborough County. Congratulations Yellow Jackets! The school has a unique STEM program including a space station on campus. It’s a flight simulator classroom the school named “Space Station Stewart” You will find a lot of space pride on campus because in 2003 they were selected as one of the first 50 NASA explorer schools in the nation. Some of the other classes in addition to aerospace include robotics, game design, engineering and environmental. The environmental class even has a living laboratory located on the Hillsborough River front near the school. The living laboratory give the students a chance for some hands-on learning and an opportunity to apply the concepts they are introduced to in class. The school even has its own school bus so they can tale students more easily on field trips to see first-hand how what they are learning is used in the real world. They also have a WeatherSTEM program where data is collected to show forecasts and current weather reports. You can monitor their data here: https://hillsborough.weatherstem.com/stewart It’s pretty easy to see why Stewart Middle Magnet School is this week’s 10News’ School of the Week powered by Duke Energy Florida.
