In what investigators originally claimed was apparent exposure to drain opener chemicals, is now being classified as a murder suicide.

A family member found 78-year-old, Gertrudis Cintron, and her 58-year-old son Angel Alicea-Estrada when they arrived at the home in the 2300 block of Margaret Street around 11:30 a.m. Monday. One of them was taken to Sarasota Memorial Hospital where they later died. The other was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Sarasota County Hazmat Team was called out to a Sarasota home to investigate. Hazmat cleared the home around 2 p.m. and say it appears the two died from exposure to drain opener chemicals.

Investigators now say this was not an accidental exposure to drain opener chemicals but that this is a potential murder suicide.
