A resident discovered the possible munition while digging and called the sheriff's office.

SPRING HILL, Fla. -- Hernando County deputies were alerted to the possibility of an old military munition Monday evening.

A resident discovered the possible munition while digging and called the sheriff's office.

The Citrus County Sheriff's Bomb Squad responded to the scene to get rid and possibly neutralize the object, according to the Hernando County Sheriff's Facebook page.

The bomb squad has since cleared the scene and a representative from the MacDill Air Force Base responded to remove the object.

The representative says the munition may possibly be from the Civil War era.
