Bradenton, Florida -- A 16-year-old driver ran a red light early Thursday and struck another car, killing both occupants of the other vehicle.

The crash occurred about 2:03 a.m. Thursday at the intersection of 53rd Avenue West and 26th Street West in Manatee County.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Emerson Herrera, 16, of Bradenton, was northbound in a 2003 Ford Explorer on 26th Street when she did not stop for a red light at 26th Street. Herrera struck a westbound Volkswagen Passat, and the crash sent both vehicles spinning.

Herrera is in serious condition in Manatee Memorial Hospital.

The two victims in the Passat were identified as Gabriella Longpre, 22, and Jessica Costanzo, 32. Both were from Venice.

According to a report in the Bradenton Herald, Herrera got into another vehicle before law enforcement arrived. Troopers said they believe Herrera was alone in the Explorer, though they're still interviewing witnesses.

Charges are pending, according to the report.
