BROOKSVILLE, Fla. -- A Hernando County deputy who has served the office since 2004 was taken into custody following an hours-long standoff.
William Cole Brinson, 43, is charged with two counts of aggravated assault with a firearm and three counts of domestic battery. Deputies say he barricaded himself inside a home on Royal Drive just after 7:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 8.
It's believed the incident started as a domestic dispute, fueled by alcohol, according to a news release.
He was taken into custody more than 10 hours later at 6:30 a.m. Tuesday. No victims, deputies nor the suspect were hurt during the ordeal.
The Hernando County Sheriff's Office website shows Brinson is an accomplished detective who last was assigned to the major case economics crimes section in 2013.
