LAKE PLACID, Fla. -- Florida Hospital has released 20 patients after being treated for injuries following a semi versus school bus crash.

22 students and the school bus driver were taken in total to the hospital. Two of the students from the school bus remains at Tampa General Hospital in an unknown condition and were airlifted from the scene.

The crash happened around 7:30 a.m. Wednesday on US 27 near Lake Placid Drive.

The school bus was stopped to allow students to get onboard, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. The FHP said the bus also had its flashing lights activated to warn other drivers it was stopped.

The semi-truck did not stop in time and struck the rear of the stopped bus, according to FHP. The crash pushed the school bus onto the east shoulder of US 27, and it overturned on its side.

There were 39 students in total on the bus when the crash happened.
