FHP trooper injured after getting hit by suspected drunk driver in Tampa

TAMPA, Fla. – A trooper with the Florida Highway Patrol was injured after getting hit by a suspected drunk driver on Interstate 75.

The suspected drunk driver hit the trooper on I-75 South just north of I-4, according to FHP spokesperson Steve Gaskins.

Billy Lee Floyd, 49, of Land O' Lakes is suspected of hitting the trooper, who had minor injuries. First responders took the injured trooper to an area hospital for medical care.

Other FHP troopers took Floyd to the Orient Road Jail.

Floyd drove a 2016 Ford SUV and the trooper was driving a 2016 Dodge Charger, according to the FHP.

Gaskins tweeted about the crash at 7:44 a.m. Wednesday.
