RIVERVIEW, Fla. – Police say a 17-year-old driver was speeding when she lost control of her vehicle and crashed into the back of a house.

The crash happened around 6 a.m. Friday, Sept. 1, in the area of Whisper Creek and Ramble Creek drives.

Investigators say the driver of a Nissan Rogue ran through a stop sign, through a fence and into the sliding glass doors of a house.

It came to a stop in the homeowners' living room. The couple living in the home said they were in the bedroom above where the vehicle crashed.

The impact shook the entire house, said Brian Sexton.

"We woke up to a loud bang and breaking glass, ran downstairs to a living room full of smoke and a very frantic driver screaming," he said.

"She (the driver) kept apologizing, he was upset but happy everybody was OK and made sure that she didn’t run over anybody."

Sexton said at first he thought the noise was from someone breaking into his home.

Sky10 flying over the scene showed the path of damage left behind by the vehicle which sped through the three-way intersection at Crest Side Blvd., and Ramble Creek Drive, before continuing through the treeline and fence at the back of the Whisper Creek Drive property.

Hillsborough County Sheriff's deputies on scene said the driver was not seriously hurt. It's unclear what caused her to lose control. Authorities said she was on her to pick up a friend when the crash happened.

Sexton told 10News the girl's mother, who showed up on scene after the crash, said the car was newly purchased.

No one inside the house was hurt.

"We're just glad everybody is OK," said Mary Carroll, the homeowner.
