Man hit, killed by train after car breaks down on tracks

Troopers say the man got out of his car and attempted to move it out of the way of the incoming train.

SUMTER COUNTY, Fla. — Florida Highway Patrol says a man was hit and killed by a train Thursday night in Sumter County.

It happened on East Noble Avenue at Market Street just before 11 p.m.

Troopers say a 62-year-old man's 2009 Ford Explorer broke down on railroad tracks.

The man got out of the car in an attempt to move it off of the tracks when a southbound train came barreling through and hit him, according to FHP.

The man died at the scene of the crash.
