PALMETTO, Fla. -- An investigation is underway into a shooting involving Palmetto Police Department officers and a suspect who was shot and killed.

Officers were called early Monday, Sept. 25, around 1:30 a.m. to Old Memphis Cemetery near Bayshore Road and 25th Street W., for reports of a shooting. A father said his son, 32-year-old Anthony Robinson had fired shots into the front of his home. When they arrived, they found multiple bullet holes on the front of them home-- including the area where a child was sleeping inside.

Palmetto Police found the suspect in the vehicle that the suspect was reportedly driving and they attempted to stop it. Robinson did not comply and ran from police before crashing his vehicle. After the vehicle was no longer mobile, Robinson got out of the car with a gun in his hand.

The police chief with the department said shortly after Robinson ran into the cemetery, "a shooting occurred." Officers attempted to do CPR but he was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

In an email, Chief Scott Tyler said two officers were involved and they were placed on administrative leave.

Police say Robinson had a criminal history but could not provide the details of the history.

The Florida Law Enforcement Department continues to investigate.
