The mother of a Sarasota teen who has been missing since Sept. 4 fatally struck and killed a pedestrian with her car Thursday, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Troopers said Tawana T. Spann, 37, of Tampa was driving west on U.S. 301 near 15th Street E. The pedestrian, who's been identified as a 33-year-old woman from Bradenton, tried to cross U.S. 301 in the middle of the intersection.
Spann hit the woman, who was declared dead at the scene.
Spann is the mother of 15-year-old Jabez Spann. A $50,000 reward has been offered for information that helps find him.
