LAKELAND, Fla. -- A 34-year-old man died Wednesday hours after he reportedly walked to railroad tracks and then leaned in front on an oncoming train.
About 1:56 p.m. Wednesday Lakeland police responded to Tennessee Avenue after a report that a pedestrian was struck by a CSX freight train.
Witnesses said Eric John Velazquez of Pensacola walked from Munn Park to the tracks and then appeared to intentionally lean forward into a passing CSX freight train and was hit.
Lakeland Fire Department and Polk County EMS attempted to life-saving actions and transported Velazquez to Lakeland Regional Health.
He died at 2:36 p.m.
