Update as of June 29, 2017: The Davenport 7-year-old boy who was the subject of a Florida Department of Children and Families missing child alert was found in California, police said.
The Department of Children and Families have gotten involved in the situation and Donovan Carruthers is now in state's care.
DCF is working to figure out if Joseff Rhodes, the boyfriend of Donovan's deceased mother, is his father. If it turns out that he is not the father, Donovan will be put under the care of the father or another suitable family member.
If there is not a suitable family member for him, he will be placed in DCF's system.
Rhodes does not currently face any charges, according to the Haines City Police Department.
Original story: DAVENPORT, Fla. – The Davenport 7-year-old boy who was the subject of a Florida Department of Children and Families missing child alert has been found in California, police said.
Donovan Carruthers is in the care of police in Rialto, Calif. They are waiting for California Child Services to get the boy.
Police said they were able to contact the man who had the boy, 41-year-old Joseff Rhodes, who is not listed as the boy's father. Rhodes took the boy to the police department.
Police credited the media for distributing information about the boy for his recovery.
Rhodes has a criminal history, which includes promoting prostitution, according to authorities.
Carruthers was unaccounted for between seven and 12 days. The Orange County Sheriff's Office reported to DCF that Carruthers could be in danger and maybe with Rhodes on June 19.
Donovan Carruthers' mother Amber Elizabeth Carruthers was a homicide victim in Orlando on June 17, according to the Haines City Police Department.
Rhodes was the boyfriend and pimp for Amber Carruthers, according to Haines City police.
