WINTER HAVEN, Fla. -- Police are warning residents in Winter Haven about three people behind a scheme to distract homeowners while they steal from them.

Investigators say on Friday, a man walked up to a home and knocked on the door. A woman answered. The suspect said he needed to speak to her husband about the property line and how it relates to a home for sale next door.

The husband then walked with the suspect to the back yard and while there, a second man came to the door and told the wife that he needed to go to the back yard, too, but on the other side.

Police say the suspects were talking to each other on walkie-talkies, which is when the husband began to get suspicious.

As the husband began to walk towards the front of the house, a third suspect drove up in a white Dodge Ram. The two suspects jumped in the truck and they all drove off.

When the homeowners checked inside the house, they found that around $10,000 in jewelry had been taken.

Police say all three suspects appeared to be between 25 and 30 years old. One is approximately 5’8” – 5’10” weighing 175 pounds. The second suspect is 5’4” – 5’6” at 175 pounds and the third suspect is 6’2” – 6’4” and approximately 270 pounds.

Police say if you get a visit you didn’t schedule, don’t go outside no matter what the circumstances. And definitely don’t let them inside.

Anyone with information on the identities of these suspects is asked to call Heartland Crime Stoppers at 1-800-226-TIPS (8477).
