A Winter Haven family has a lot to be thankful for this holiday season. Their old car broke down a couple of months ago, and they've been trying to make it without one. Now they won't need to, thanks to a generous donor and Dreams of Winter Haven.

“It's definitely a blessing,” Suzanna Lowery said.

For a while, she’s been hitching rides to work with friends and family.

“Don't know her at all. Just met her yesterday for the first time,” Billy Bob Morris said.

But he just changed her life. His organization, Dreams of Winter Haven, gave her a donated car for free. For the past 30 years, Billy Bob Morris has run a tree service in town.

However, two years ago, he started Dreams of Winter Haven. Since then, the organization has given away eight donated cars to needy families.

“You see people on the street, they say, 'oh, I'm still driving that car you gave us,’” Morris said.

“It's not about me, or us or anybody. It's about them, what we can do,” he explained. “All we're trying to do is jump start them in life so they can get back out there.”

Lowery works at The Mission of Winter Haven. It wasn't long ago, though, that she went there in need of help. With their assistance, she got her life back on track.

“She knows what it's like to be in need and to need a hand up, and not a handout,” Pastor David Berry said.

Suzanna knows this is a big hand up. Now she can get to work on her own and take the kids to school, doctors appoint and sporting events.

“Someone cared enough to donate the car for someone that needed it, like me, so it makes a big difference in my life,” she said, smiling behind the wheel of her Chevrolet HHR.

Billy Bob does this year-round, but this giveaway couldn't be more timely.

“It feels great,” he said. “It feels like you scored the last touchdown in the game, you know.”

He reminds us what the holidays are really about. Thanks to him, Suzanna has more to be thankful for than ever.

Morris and Dreams of Winter Haven are always looking for people who have cars they can donate. You get a tax write off, and you can be there to hand over the keys to the family they choose.
