Zephyrhills, Florida -- A St. Petersburg High School student was killed in a crash on U.S. Highway 301 in Zephyrhills Wednesday morning.

Pasco Fire Rescue says the 3-vehicle accident happened around 6:30 a.m. Gall Boulevard/US 301 was shut down between County Line and Chancey roads for several hours before it was reopened around 10:45 a.m.

The Florida Highway Patrol says a Chevrolet pickup truck rear-ended a Ford pickup truck that was trying to turn into Zephyrhills Festival & Auction from the northbound lanes of US-301. After impact the Ford truck rotated and traveled into the path of a Pontiac Vibe. After hitting that car, the truck continued onto the west shoulder and hit a wooded power pole and a large rock.

The Pontiac traveled into the ditch on the west shoulder.

16-year-old Kelmy Tanon, who was sitting in the back seat of the Pontiac, was killed in the crash. Troopers say Kelmy, a student at St. Pete High, was not wearing his seatbelt at the time.

The driver of that car, 39-year-old Zuleika Gonzalez-Tiernan, and 9-year-old Isaiah Gonzalez who was in the front passenger seat, were both taken to Lakeland Regional in serious condition.

The driver of the Chevy pickup truck, 67-year-old Julian Tanner, was taken to Lakeland Regional in serious condition.

The driver of the Ford pickup truck, 32-year-old William Kent Jr, was taken to Florida Hospital Zephyrhills with minor injuries.

Duke Energy is still on-scene making repairs to the damaged power pole.
