ST. PETERSBURG - A toddler was hospitalized after an accidental near drowning Wednesday.

Police say the 23-month-old was playing near the pool of her Tierra Verde residence, when her mother looked away for a few seconds. The mother turned back around to check the child and noticed the child was in the pool not moving. She jumped in the water and pulled the child out. The toddler was unconscious when the mother called 911 and began chest compressions on the child. Before deputies arrived, the child regained consiousness.

She was transported to a children's hospital for non-life threatening injuries and she is expected to make a full recovery.

Deputies say the incident appears to be accidental in nature.
