Man charged with attacking girl was on probation for similar crime

A Haines City man is in jail again after police say he tried to abduct a girl on her way to school.
Tristan Calixe appeared in court Friday, where a judge set no bond on the latest charge.

LAKELAND, Fla. (WTSP) -- A Haines City man is in jail after police say he tried to abduct a girl on her way to school, just a month after he was released from jail for a similar crime.

10News first reported the story Thursday, and it has a lot of you asking: How could he commit a similar crime while still on probation for the first?

The most recent attack happened early Thursday morning near Haines City High School. Police said a 15-year-old girl was walking to school when Tristan Calixe grabbed her neck from behind and threw her to the ground.

“She started kicking, punching screaming, anything she could do,” said Haines City Police Chief James Elensky.

She got away barely hurt but with a clear description of her attacker. Using that description and records of people recently released from jail after committing similar crimes, police identified the suspect.

“He's out for about a month, and then he does it again,” Elensky said. “It's the same exact method.”

Police said Calixe was still on probation after attacking a girl in 2015 when he allegedly attacked this student. Calixe pleaded no contest to the 2015 charge.

In court Friday, a judge set no bond for violating probation conditions. Parents say we need stricter laws in cases like this one to protect children.

“Probably more jail time, probably put them out more public so we know if they live around this area,” said Yoelda Delira, who picked up her niece from the high school Friday.

She's worried if this man's released again, he could attack another child. Elensky said that’s a valid worry.

“If he gets out of jail this time, parents need to be concerned,” the police chief said.

The State Attorney’s Office said because of the defendant's history, they're going to pursue this case as aggressively as possible.
