Man dead following explosion, fire at Pinellas County home

A 66-year-old man died following an explosion and fire at a home, the Lealman Fire Department said.

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - A 66-year-old man died following an explosion and fire at a home, the Lealman Fire District said.

Anthony Sabino died in the fire inside a five-unit townhome around 9:07 p.m. at 7233 Parkside Villas Drive North.

No one else was inside the home at the time of the fire, according to the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office.

Oxygen was inside the home but investigators are determining if it was related to the fire, Thompson said.

"The roof collapsed at the back side of the building," Thompson said. "It was an intense fire. We had 40 firefighters on scene at one point."

Investigators are still working to determine how the fire started.

Detectives said Sabino sent text messages to a family member and made threats to hurt himself on Thursday.

The fire does not appear to be suspicious, according to the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office.

The investigation is ongoing.
