Fox News reporter Geraldo Rivera says he can't remember groping Bette Midler, as she claimed, but he's apologizing anyway.
Rivera said in a tweet Friday that he recalls the encounter with Midler "much differently than she," but she still has the right to demand an apology for, "in the very least, publically embarrassing her all those years ago. Bette, I apologize," Rivera wrote.
Rivera took to Twitter after Midler shared her own #MeToo story this week.
In the clip, she describes the alleged incident with Rivera, which she claims happened in the early 1970s.
"He and his producer left his crew in the other room, they pushed me into my bathroom. They broke two poppers and pushed them under my nose and proceeded to grope me," she said. "I did not offer myself up on altar of Geraldo Rivera. He was unseemly. His behavior was unseemly."
Poppers is a slang term for the drug alkyl nitrite.
"You have no way of knowing at the time that these things are going to come back to haunt you," she added as Walters tried to move on to another topic.
