The Florida Lottery issued a warning Tuesday about scammers asking players to send in money to claim winnings from the Mega Millions game.
Lottery officials said people are receiving notices saying that they have won a Mega Millions prize and requests they wire transfer thousands of dollars to secure their winnings. To appear legitimate, the notice includes memorandum/stationary from the FBI and Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation that serve as letters of authentication. A photo claiming to show three FBI agents was sent to one victim in an attempt to further prove its validity.
Lottery official say players will never be required to transfer funds to secure their winnings for any Florida Lottery game.
