ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (WTSP) – After facing tough criticism from the public, the city of St. Pete is holding tours of its wastewater facilities on Saturday to help people learn more about how the systems operate.

This comes a little more than a month after overloaded wastewater plants dumped a record amount of sewage into the Tampa Bay.

“We want to be open and transparent, and we want to make sure that the public has ownership of what we do here, and [we want to] try and restore the public trust in what we do,” said interim water resources director John Palenchar.

The tours will run from 9 a.m. to noon at the city’s Northeast, Northwest and Southwest plants. Tours at the Southwest plant must be coordinated in advance. For more information, call 727-893-7041.
