The Florida Department of Environmental Protection announced late Monday says it has reached a plan with Mosaic for cleaning up the sinkhole in Mulberry.

Under the consent order, which our news partners at The Tampa Bay Times says was announced about 5:23 p.m., Mosaic will be required to seal the sinkhole, recover all the pollution that drained into the aquifer and make sure that its waste would never again be a threat to the aquifer.

To guarantee its cooperation, the order says, Mosaic is required to put up $40 million, and if it fails to follow through on the cleanup, the company will face fines of up to $10,000 per day.
