TAMPA, Fla. - Narcan, a overdose reversal drug, was used by a Tampa police officer for the first time early Friday morning.
Officer Scott Seely was called to an East Tampa home at about 2 a.m. for a possible drug overdose. They discovered a 27-year-old man who was unresponsive and had an empty syringe nearby, Tampa police said.
Seely used his nasal spray kit to provide a dose of Narcan to the man, and within a minute, he was revived and sat straight up, the department said.
Tampa police have 825 Narcan kits for usage.
"They are a valuable tool for law enforcement as they find themselves on the front lines in the fight against opioid abuse and drug overdoses," the department said.
