City of Venice restores potable water service

City officials said crews will begin to restored water around 3 a.m. Thursday morning.

VENICE, Fla. — The city of Venice restored potable water service after discontinuing it on Wednesday due to impacts from Hurricane Ian.

The City of Venice Utilities Department announced that potable water service was restored to the island of Venice around 3 a.m. on Thursday.

Residents are asked to boil water or use bottled water for consumption purposes such as drinking, cooking, and brushing their teeth until the boil water advisory has been rescinded after 72 hours.

The City of Venice said residents would be notified via the Alert Sarasota County phone notification system.

City officials stated in a Twitter post at 10:33 a.m. on Wednesday that until water services are restored, residents should boil water used for drinking and cooking purposes.

Crews will look for leaks in the system, make repairs and restore service once winds are below 35 mph.

Water has since been restored in the area.
