While in California, Kate was the chief meteorologist at KEYT in Santa Barbara and also worked as a freelance meteorologist for KCBS/KCAL in Los Angeles. Wentzel also spent three years as a weather anchor at WSVN in Miami.
A native of San Diego, Wentzel spent most of her childhood in the Midwest, living in both the suburbs of Chicago and Cleveland. Kate then moved to West Palm Beach in 1995 and graduated from Palm Beach Atlantic University with a B.A. in Communications. She completed her studies at Mississippi State University's broadcast meteorology program in 2002.
Wentzel holds broadcast seals of approval from both the American Meteorology Society and the National Weather Association.
An outdoor enthusiast, Kate has always been fascinated by the complexity of weather and how it affects our everyday lives. Wentzel enjoys getting out and about doing weather-related stories. Her reporting has taken her high in the sky on a glider ride, to kayaking sea caves off the coast of California, to doing live weather from the deck of the U.S.S. Denver while anchored in the Pacific Ocean.
In her free time, Kate enjoys the beach, all types of water sports, running and spending time with friends and family, especially her niece and nephew. Wentzel is also a certified personal trainer and is a red cross certified lifeguard and water safety instructor.
