Lithia, Florida -- Most of the homes in FishHawk Ranch aren't even ten years old, but the name Fish Hawk has been in this area for a whole lot longer. Plus, what is a fish hawk, anyway?

We took The Morning Show LIVE to Park Square in FishHawk Ranch on Wednesday, February 2nd!

Why do they call it FishHawk Ranch?

When do you think the first home was built in Fish Hawk?

Go ahead, guess... I'll wait.

I'm sorry, that's incorrect.

Try sometime before 1875! Sure, lots of the community's brick streets and picket fences were built after Britney Spears was old enough to drink.

But back when the American flag had fewer than 40 stars, a town called Fish Hawk was started in the Hillsborough County wilderness.

Right after 1900, it got a post office and a new name -- Boyette -- which honored the prominent Boyette family. By 1940, Boyette had practically vanished.

That left farmers, growers, and ranchers as the main groups out here.

In the 1990s, a development group bought chunks of that agricultural land and -- poof -- created a town.

To name the new community, they revived the past. And FishHawk Ranch was born.

So... What is a fish hawk? It's not some mutant flounder with feathers. It's a hawk-like bird that eats mainly fish -- another name for an osprey.

Why do they call it that? Now you know.
