Baby on board? Something got royal watchers wondering

( - Is Britain's Prince George going to become a big brother?

Royal watchers were agog with speculation that the Duke of Duchess of Cambridge could be working on getting a spare to join the heir after the royal couple paid a visit Saturday to the small town of Cambridge, New Zealand.

Well-wisher Cynthia Read presented Prince William with a merino wool shawl for 8-month-old Prince George. Read told the media that William thanked her and said, "You might have to make another one soon!"

"The way William said it, it was like he was dropping a hint, letting me in on a secret," Read said.

That was more than enough to set the rumor mills grinding. Speculation that the former Kate Middleton, 32, could be expecting made headlines in the British Sunday newspapers.

But the slender duchess put a damper on the excitement on Sunday when, touring a vineyard in Queenstown, New Zealand, she sampled some wine. Kate remarked how nice it was to be able to drink alcohol after abstaining while she was pregnant with baby George.

BBC royal correspondent Nicholas Witchell said the duchess was sending a not-so-subtle message that the pregnancy speculation was wrong.

William and Kate, accompanied by their son, are on a 19-day tour of New Zealand and Australia.
