Crunches or planks? What's the better exercise for rock-hard abs?

Did you know that crunches are NOT the best core training exercise?

Actually, doing too many crunches can often lead to back pain due to muscle imbalances. Heck, we sit in a crunch position most of the day at our desks and are constantly hunched over our phones. So forget heading to the gym and doing more of the same thing that's already creating pain and imbalance!

So what is the best ab exercise? Planks!

A recent study published in the Journal of Strength & Conditioning Research found that exercises, such as planks, that also recruit muscles like the glutes or shoulders increase activation of the abs (while getting the added bonus of working more muscles and thus burning more calories from your workout)! It's a bit of a no-brainer to include more exercises such as planks than can freshen up any stale ab routine, while also doing a better job of working those core muscles.

And the great thing about planks is that there are so many different ways to do them. So, if you're ready to increase your core strength and tone try these exercises today.
