Peyton Reed, Adam McKay join Marvel's 'Ant-Man'

(USA Today) Peyton Reed was once Down With Love, and now he's up with Ant-Man.

Marvel Studios announced Saturday that Reed's the man to fill the director's chair left by filmmaker Edgar Wright for the upcoming movie featuring the shrinking superhero. Adam McKay (Anchorman) has also been brought on to work with the film's script, which was penned by Wright and Joe Cornish.

Ant-Man, which will kick off "Phase 3" of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, stars Paul Rudd as Scott Lang, who has the powers to get smaller while also increasing his strength. A con man, Lang has to figure out to be a hero and help his mentor Dr. Hank Pym (Michael Douglas) protect the Ant-Man suit while also executing a world-saving heist.

Marvel had reportedly been meeting with comedy directors such as McKay, Ruben Fleischer and Rawson Marshall Thurber to replace Wright, but in Reed the studio has a guy with a diverse filmography that includes the cheerleader comedy Bring It On(2000), the 1960s-era romance Down With Love (2003), The Break-Up (2006) andYes Man (2008).

Ant-Man is slated to arrive in theaters July 17, 2015.
