'SNL' newbie Brooks Wheelan 'fired' from show

(USA TODAY) After only one season on Saturday Night Live, cast member Brooks Wheelan tweeted he's off the show:

You may know him as "one of the new white guys" SNL added to the cast last year. He appeared in some Weekend Update sketches and a pretty funny bit with Edward Norton called Critter Control. Watch:

But Wheelan shouldn't worry about his comedy career. There are plenty of beloved comedians who didn't last long on

, as Judd Apatow pointed out on Twitter:

Here are three more recently fired SNL stars whose careers have long outlived their one-season stints on the show:

Casey Wilson

After being ousted after a season, Wilson went on to play Penny in cult favorite Happy Endings. Now, she's starring in new show Marry Me.

Jenny Slate

After cursing on-air during her first SNL episode, Slate's created the popular Marcel the Shell with Shoes on, had hilarious roles roles on Parks & Recreation and Kroll Show, voiced a character on Bob's Burgers and is the star of critically acclaimed (well, not by our critic) indie Obvious Child.

Michaela Watkins

Since leaving SNL, Watkins starred on the show Trophy Wife and in well-received films Enough Said and In a World. She's also the co-creator of Benched, a new comedy series.
