(Florida Today) - Officials have removed Irene from the list of storm names after the August 2011 hurricane of the same name caused widespread damage and more than 45 deaths.
The World Meteorological Organization removed the name from the list, which reuses names every six years, replacing it with Irma. Irene is the 76th name to be retired from the Atlantic list since 1954.
Hurricane Irene caused extensive flooding in the United States and caused an estimated $15.8 billion damage.
