If you recognize this woman, it could be worth a $1,000 to you! Hillsborough County detectives hope you know who she is.

Tampa, Florida - It's sad when the economy gets so bad, that people resort to stealing innocent puppies to make a quick buck.

But, it's happening, and more than once.

On September 23, 2008, a young woman walked into "All About Puppies" in Carrollwood during regular business hours.

It was a busy day with lots of customers and puppies in the store. The woman came in with a large handbag and made her way around the store, petting various puppies and playing with them.

The manager had no idea what the young woman was doing.

Moments later, on surveillance tape, the woman is seen walking behind a gate, where detectives say, she took a $900 Pomeranian puppy and shoved it in her purse. Then, the woman walked out from behind the gate with the puppy in her bag and walked out the door.

Manager Amber Juilan was heartbroken, saying, " They are like our little kids, so when someone comes in and takes them, it's extremely disappointing."

Disappointing and dangerous, Amber adds.

"If they steal a dog, they obviously can't afford to buy it. How are they going to afford all the medical care that the dog needs," Amber says.

After the theft, there's a new store policy that all handbags and backpacks are to be stored at the front desk.

Detective Jack Rodriguez from the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office tells us, the thief wasn't very smart to steal the Pomeranian since all the dogs are microchipped, making them easy to track.

"Once the dog is scanned and it comes back stolen, they'll know exactly what shop it came from or who the owner is," Detective Rodriguez said.

And, this isn't the first time "All About Puppies" has been hit.

Just last month, two masked men broke in overnight and stole two of the most expensive puppies in the store.

One of the puppies was an English Bulldog costing $3,000, while another was a Puggle, which is a cross between a Pug and a Beagle. The Puggle runs about $1,000.

Detectives always check online sites like Craig's List and other personal ads to find the dogs for sale. However, in this case, they are hoping that surveillance video will help in catching the "dog-nappers" and put them away for good.
