10 Ways to Make a Safer Tampa Bay

  1. Help with or start your own Neighborhood Watch program.
  2. Have uniformed law enforcement officers that live in your community park their patrol cars outside their garage to deter crime.
  3. Mobilize volunteers to patrol the streets looking for suspicious activity.
  4. Creating Youth Action Groups help introduce community involvement to kids from beginning.
  5. Use bright lights to keep your house and yard area visible.
  6. Be more alert to your surroundings: When out walking or jogging after dark, try not to wear headphones.
  7. Keep your child’s computer in an open easy to monitor area.
  8. Keep open lines of communication with your children, so that they will be comfortable telling you of a crime that they’ve witnessed or been a victim of.
  9. Keep a list of emergency phone numbers where it can be easily accessed.
  10. Avoid using walls and high fences that could shield a break-in to your home, but instead use a low fence or shrubs.
