Harriet the eagle lays first egg

Harriet, Southwest Florida's most famous eagle, has laid an egg. The egg sighting was reported by the SWFL Eagle Cam's Twitter page, according to a report from the News-Press.

The egg was seen at 5:02 p.m. Tuesday.

The countdown to egg season began Monday, according to the cam's Tumblr page.

"The nest has been constructed," the SWFL Eagle Cam posted. "M15 delivers meals for Harriet and all systems seem to be a go."

M15 is Harriet's mate. The younger eagle began mating with Harriet after fighting her mate, Ozzie. Ozzie and Harriet rose to fame since the 2012 to 2013 nesting season, when millions of people watched the birds of prey raise their chicks.

Ozzie died last October.

The eagle cam reported the two parents began spending more time together closer to the nest recently.

E8, an eaglet born last year, rose to fame after being sent to the Clinic for the Rehabilitation of Wildlife twice.
