A Manatee County deputy successfully captured a fugitive after it tried to flee during a transfer and ran into a pond.
Deputy Brandon Rowe was flagged down on Monday near 6000 Honore Avenue when someone found an iguana on the concrete barrier between the road and a pond.
A woman stopped and gave Rowe a towel, which he used to get the iguana into the back seat.
A worker with Manatee County Animal Services then tried to get the lizard out of the back seat and into their van, but he squirmed out of their hands, and into another pond.
The deputy used animal control’s pole noose to get him out of a few feet of water. The iguana is now with animal control.
