Puppies abandoned outside humane society receive care

Four pitbull puppies are getting care after someone abandoned them outside the humane society.

TAMPA, Fla. — A litter of Christmas K-9’s nicknamed Noel, Joy, Merry and Nick are already feeling better.

The four pit bull puppies were abandoned outside the Humane Society of Tampa Bay, possibly by an owner disgusted by their condition or unable to afford care.

“I personally feel people are embarrassed to come in and we don’t want people to feel that way,” said Humane Society Veterinary Technician Deanna Musso. “It's great they brought them here, but we just wish they would have walked through the door.”

The puppies were found in the Humane Society’s parking lot, but dangerously close to a busy roadway.

“They’re very lucky … they really are,” said Musso.

The four are now undergoing treatment for that skin condition called Demodex.

“He is very itchy,” said Musso holding one of the four puppies. “It causes hair loss, there is scabbing on the body, it is extremely itchy, but we do have them on some medication so they’re not as uncomfortable as when they first came to us.”

A Humane Society staffer will be fostering the dogs until they’re nursed back to health and ready for adoption.

“They have the best shot they’ve ever had in their lives,” said a very happy Musso.

In four to six weeks, the puppies named for Christmas will be ready to meet new owners just in time… for Valentine’s Day.
