When a client asks me for the key to a fabulous wardrobe, I tell them "fit". I have to admit that I am a real stickler when it comes to clothing and the way the garments fit to the body.
In fact, just about everything in my closet has been altered. Minor alterations can make inexpensive, so-so clothing look like you have your own tailor making custom couture just for you. Here are a few key alterations to consider:
--Narrow the sleeves on a jacket or dress for a slimming effect.
--Sew pockets closed on pants to create a smooth, seamless look.
--Lift the shoulders of a sleeveless dress to tighten the armholes and make your arms look thinner.
--Narrow the bottom of a pencil skirt 1 or 2 inches to make legs appear slimmer.
--Run two darts up the back of a sheath dress to give it shape.
--Hem pants to cover top of shoe for a leg-lengthening effect.
--Hem skirts and dresses to just above or below the knee, this is usually the slimmest part of the leg.
