10News viewer pays it forward, helps raise money for homeless student and family

The girl and her family found themselves on the street just weeks before Christmas.

LAKELAND, Fla.  - A 10News viewer has come forward to help a high school student and her family, who were evicted from their apartment weeks before Christmas.

“It just doesn’t feel like Christmas to me, so I try to occupy my mind with school or my part-time job that I have,” the student said.

She asked us not to show her face or use her name. She hasn’t even told high school classmates her mom’s small business didn’t turn a profit this year, and they were suddenly homeless.

The 10News viewer saw our story about the student and the former teacher raising money to get her back into an apartment. He personally offered to put up the money to do so. He’s also helping the student’s mother find a job.

John Davis, the former teacher, set up a GoFundMe. The original goal was to raise enough money for them to move into an apartment. However, thanks to the viewer’s generosity, the money will now go toward items they need after they move in, such as furniture.
